Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When the music begins, the host may tap anywhere on the lower screen to skip to the main menu.
Downloading
1. The host taps "DS Download Play" (the bottom option on the list).
3. The guest will power on their Nintendo DS system.
4. The guest taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
5. When the graphic bar appears saying "Warhammer 20,000: Squad Command", the guest taps on it.
6. The guest's DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
7. The download will begin automatically.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. The host can select each player's affiliation by tapping the left and right arrows on the lines above each player's system name.
2. Beneath each player's name is the word "EMPTY" three times, indicating where additional players (up to eight players total) would be listed in multi-card play.
3. Instructions/hints will appear on the players' upper screens while the Wargear menu loads.
4. For each of the six units, the weapon and (if applicable) the ammo quantities can be chosen...
4a. Tap on a specific unit to select it.
4b. The default weapon is the Chainsword.
4c. To exchange the Chainsword for the Plasmagun (for that unit only), tap the left and right arrows to the sides of the weapon's picture.
NOTE: There is a third - unavailable - weapon that cannot be selected.
4d. If the Plasmagun is selected, the amount of ammo is set to 20 as a default.
4e. Plasmagun ammo can be set to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, or 100.
4f. The higher the Plasmagun ammo quantity is set at, the fewer action points that unit will have available.
5. To begin the screen, each player must either tap on "OK" at the bottom edge of the lower screen or press the "A" button and then tapping "Yes" on the next screen.
Game Controls / How To Play
1. Each player will have 90 seconds to manipulate their units per turn.
2. Selecting a unit: Tap on the unit's portrait on the lower screen's map, tap on the unit, or press the "L" and "R" buttons to switch between units.
2a. When tapping on the unit itself, a missed tap will cause the previously-selected unit to walk to that location.
2b. When tapping on the pictures, just try them one at a time until the correct unit is highlighted (since they all look alike).
3. Action Points: Movement and Attacks both reduce the number of remaining Action Points a unit has left for the turn.
3a. When attacking, increasing or decreasing the accuracy with raise or lower the number of Action Points used.
3b. Action Point levels are displayed as the green bars beneath each unit's portrait on the left side of the lower screen.
4. Movement: After selecting the unit to be moved, double tap on an area on the map.
4a. For optional movement assistance, drag the cursor to the destination before quickly double tapping.
4b. Movement can alternatively be done using the direction pad (to set the destination) and the "A" button (to begin the movement).
5. Attack Mode: Press the "B" button or tap the Attack Mode icon (Bull's-eye-like symbol) in the bottom right corner of the screen, turning it into an arrow pattern.
5a. Once attack mode is activated, aim by dragging the target or by using the direction pad.
5b. If the line to the target (the line of sight) is green, the accuracy is good; if it's red, it's not so good.
5c. Once the target is highlighted, accuracy can be increased or decreased (using more or less Action Points) by tapping the now-present up and down arrows.
5d. To activate the attack, double tap on the already-highlighted target or press the "A" button.
6. To switch between the pre-selected special weapon and a sidearm, press the "Y" button or tap the weapons selector area (weapon pictures) at the bottom edge of the lower screen.
7. Stance: To switch a highlighted unit's stance between standing and crouching, press the "X" button or tap the Stance icon to the left of the Attack Mode icon.
7a. A crouched unit can hide between short walls and terrain obstructions.
7b. A standing unit moves faster.
8. In-Game Menu: To enter the in-game menu, press the Start button or tap the Menu Icon (above the Attack Mode icon).
9. To swap screens for the Battlefield and the Tactical Map, press the Select button or tap the Screen Icon (above the Menu Icon).
What To Look For
NOTE: All of this information is based on the Tactical Map being on the upper screen and the Battleview being on the lower screen.
1. On the upper screen, the Tactical Map is displayed.
2. On the upper screen, the friendly bases are displayed in green.
3. On the upper screen, the enemy bases are displayed in red.
4. On the upper screen, allies are displayed as green dots.
5. On the upper screen, enemies are displayed as red dots.
6. On the lower screen, the Battleview display is shown.
7. On the lower screen, unit portraits are displayer on the left edge of the screen.
8. On the lower screen, health (red bar) and Action Points (green bar) are displayed underneath each unit's portrait.
NOTE: Specific Health and Action Point numbers for the highlighted unit are displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen.
9. On the lower screen, the Weapons Selector area is displayed as the two weapons' pictures at the bottom left edge of the screen.
10. On the lower screen, the Command Cursor/Attack Mode Icon is near the bottom right corner of the screen (above the Health number).
11. On the lower screen, the Stance Icon is located to the left of the Command Cursor/Attack Mode Icon.
12. On the lower screen, the Main Menu Icon is located above the Command Cursor/Attack Mode Icon.
13. On the lower screen, the Screen Swap Icon is located above the Main Menu Icon.
Overall Goals
1. Control all four (4) headquarters for one full turn.
3. Don't allow your units to die.
4. Don't allow your headquarters to be taken.
