Hint #1 - Control Flip
Because of the overhead view (and the fact that it doesn't rotate with the car), the controls can get a bit confusing. The controls are always set up as if you (the player) are sitting behind the steering wheel. When the car is driving away from the screen (a.k.a. north, a.k.a. up), left sends the car to the left of the screen and right sends the car to the right of the screen. However, when the car is driving toward the screen (a.k.a. south, a.k.a. down), turning left heads the car at the right side of the screen and turning right heads the car to the left side of the screen.
Hint #2 - Brake & Go 'Round
In tight turns, sliding won't always help. One method is to temporarily stop pressing the "A" button (stop hitting the gas) while going around a turn; for the tightest of turns, breaking ("B" button) may be required to prevent you from leaving the main part of the road.
