Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. The hosts taps on the lower screen or press the Start button when the bar saying "Press Start" appears on the lower screen.
Downloading
1. The host taps on the bar that says "Battle Play" (the middle bar).
2. The host then taps on the bar that says "DS Download Play" (the bottom bar)
3. A box will pop up on the host's lower screen saying "Caution! Use Wireless Communications?". The host taps "Yes".
4. The guest will power on their Nintendo DS system.
5. The guest taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
6. When the graphic bar appears saying "Sonic Rush (Battle)", the guest taps on it.
7. The guest's DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
8. The guest's name will appear in the second ("2P") listing on the host's lower screen.
9. The host will then press the Start button or tap the blue bar that says "Press Start".
10. A box will pop up on the host's lower screen that says "Start Downloading?". The host taps "Yes".
1. The host taps on the bar that says "Options" (the bottom bar).
2. The host taps on the tap that says "Download Demo" (the bottom tab).
3. The host then selects which character will be sent with the demo by tapping "Sonic" or "Blaze".
4. A box will pop up on the host's lower screen saying "Caution! Use Wireless Communications?". The host taps "Yes".
5. The guest will power on their Nintendo DS system.
6. The guest taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
7. When the graphic bar appears saying "Sonic Rush (Sonic)" or "Sonic Rush (Blaze)", the guest taps on it.
8. The guest's DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
9. The current number of players (the host + all guests) is displayed on the host's lower screen ("Connection: #P").
10. Once all players downloading the demo have conneced, the host will tap the Start button or tap the blue bar that says "Press Start".
11. A box will pop up on the host's lower screen that says "Start Downloading?". The host taps "Yes".
12. During the downloading process, each guest's lower screen will keep them appraised of their downloading progress.
13. Once the download is complete, each guest can tap "Press Start" or press the Start button when they are ready to begin.
14. The demo is the level Leaf Storm (Zone 1 Act 2).
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. Each player will select their character (either Sonic or Blaze).
2. To change your character, press left or right on the direction pad or tap on the arrows next to the character's name on the lower screen.
3. After one of the players has locked in their character choice, the other player will not be allowed to select the same character.
4. The host will then select the Zone & Act to battle in.
5. The current Zone & Act will be displayed in the bottom right corner of the host's lower screen.
6. The host can change the Zone & Act by tapping the left and right arrows next to the Zone/Act label or pressing left and right on the direction pad.
7. Selectable Zones/Acts include Zone 1 Act 1, Zone 1 Act 2, Zone 2 Act 1, Zone 2 Act 2, Zone 3 Act 1, and Zone 3 Act 2.
8. To lock in the Zone/Act selection, the host taps the Zone/Act label on their lower screen or presses the "A" button.
(The only option is which character is playable, and this is selected by the host pre-download.)
Game Controls / How To Play
1. Press the Start button to pause the game.
2. The Tension Gauge is located along the left hand border of the screen Sonic is currently on.
2a. The Tension Gauge goes up whenever you kill an enemy or perform a trick (up to 300%).
2b. The Tension Gauge goes down over time and whenever you are injured.
3. Rails look like green beams covered in ivy. While on a rail, it looks like Sonic or Blaze are riding on sparks.
4. If you are on a rail and jump, you will not land on the rail on the way down - you'll go through it and fall.
5. Spings (mostly red with a star on top and a silver spring underneath) will launch you straight up, diagonally, or horizontally.
6. Springboards (mostly green with brown ends) and stick out of the sides of walls.
7. If you fall off the bottom of the board or get injured while not holding any rings, you will lose a life.
Sonic (Versus Play & Demo Mode)
1. Movement is controlled by the direction pad (left and right).
2. Press up for two seconds while standing still on the upper screen to look above you.
3. Press down for two seconds while standing still on the lower screen to look below you.
4. Press the "A" or "B" button to Spin Jump (jump/attack combination).
5. Press the "A" or "B" button and then the "R" button while in mid-air to Jump Dash.
6. Press and hold the down direction on the direction pad and the "A" or "B" button, then release the direction pad to Spin Dash.
7. When the Tension Gauge is full, press the "X" or "Y" button while Sonic is on the ground to Super Boost.
8. Trick move: While grinding on a rail, press the "R" button three times for the Grind Trick.
9. Trick move: Just before launching off of a springboard or a rail's end, press the "A" button for a Just Trick.
10. Trick move: When launched in the air (not from jumping), hold up on the direction pad and press the "R" button for a Hop Jump.
11. Trick move: When launched in the air (not from jumping), press the "B" button twice and then the "A" or "B" button for Basic Tricks.
12. Trick move: When launched in the air (not from jumping), hold right or left on the direction pad and press the "R" button for Humming Top.
Blaze (Versus Play & Demo Mode)
1. Movement is controlled by the direction pad (left and right).
2. Press up for two seconds while standing still on the upper screen to look above you.
3. Press down for two seconds while standing still on the lower screen to look below you.
4. Press the "A" or "B" button to Axel Jump (jump/attack combination).
5. Press the "A" or "B" button and then the "R" button while in mid-air to Burst Hover.
6. Press and hold the down direction on the direction pad and the "A" or "B" button, then release the direction pad to Burst Dash.
7. When the Tension Gauge is full, press the "X" or "Y" button while Sonic is on the ground to Fire Boost.
8. Trick move: While grinding on a rail, press the "R" button three times for Grind Tricks.
9. Trick move: Just before launching off of a springboard or a rail's end, press the "A" button for a Just Trick.
10. Trick move: When launched in the air (not from jumping), hold up on the direction pad and press the "R" button for an Axel Tornado.
11. Trick move: When launched in the air (not from jumping), press the "B" button twice and then the "A" or "B" button for Basic Tricks.
12. Trick move: When launched in the air (not from jumping), hold right or left on the direction pad and press the "R" button for Jump Step.
What To Look For
NOTE: All of these things are located on whichever screen your character is currently on.
1. The number of rings currently in your character's possession is in the upper left corner of the screen.
2. The number of lives currently remaining for your character is in the lower right corner of the screen.
3. The clock (displaying how much time has passed so far) is in the top center of the screen.
4. The Tension Gauge is along the left side of the screen.
Overall Goals
1. Make it to the end of the level first (fastest).
2. Make it to the end of the level alive.
3. Collect as many rings as possible.
4. Perform as many tricks as possible.
