Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When "TOUCH TO CONTINUE" appears on the touch screen, the host taps anywhere on the touch screen to continue.
4. If this is the first time the game has been played, a profile will have to be created
4a. The host taps on a slot (Slot 1, Slot 2, Slot 3, or Slot 4) on the touch screen.
4b. The host taps the green ">" (above "EDIT") in the bottom of the touch screen.
4c. The host chooses their profile picture by tapping the picture of the cat in the top left corner of the touch screen to cycle through the options.
4d. The host selects their handedness (right-handed or left-handed): the default is "Right Handed" or the host can tap "Left Handed" to change.
4e. The host enters a profile name (un to three letters long) by tapping their choice into the on-screen keyboard.
4f. The host then taps the green check mark (above "NEXT") in the bottom right corner of the touch screen.
5. The host taps on their profile of choice and then taps on the green check mark (above "SELECT") in the bottom right corner of the touch screen.
6. The game will provide a rank summary for the host's profile; at this screen, the host can proceed to the main menu or to the training tutorials.
6a. The host can skip to the main menu by tapping the green check mark (above "NEXT") in the bottom right corner of the touch screen.
6b. The host can use the training tutorials by tapping on "GO TO TRAINING" across the ottom half of the touch screen.
Downloading
1. The host taps "MULTIPLAYER" (the second option from the top).
2. The host taps "DS DOWNLOAD PLAY" (the bottom option).
3. The host taps the green check mark (above "NEXT") in the bottom right corner of the touch screen.
4. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
5. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
6. When the graphic bar appears saying "Scrabble", the guests tap on it.
7. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
8. When the host's DS says that all guests trying to connect are connected, the host taps the green check mark (above "START DOWNLOAD") in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Game Selection
1. When "TOUCH TO CONTINUE" appears on the touch screen, the guests tap anywhere on their touch screens to continue.
2. The host taps on the green check mark (above "START") in the bottom right corner of the touch screen.
3. The host will select the game type by tapping on their choice of the following: "CLASSIC", "SLAM", or "SPEED".
3a. CLASSIC: This is the traditional game of Scrabble where tiles are placed on a gameboard in an order that forms real words.
3b. SLAM: This is a card game based on Scrabble that involves players emptying their hand of cards.
3c. SPEED: This is a timed version of Scrabble; players are assigned a time limit and all of their moves in the game must be completed within that limit.
4. When the host has tapped on the game type of their choice, they tap the green check mark (above "NEXT) near the bottom right corner of the touch screen.
5. The host will then be able to set the game features/options (listed here from top to bottom):
Feature/Options Selection
1. The host can set a point limit (the number of points the game ends at) by dragging the first yellow dot left and right along the bar.
NOTE: The choices are 75, 100, 150, and No Limit. The default is No Limit.
2. The host can set the turn timer (a per-turn time limit) by dragging the second yellow dot left and right along the bar.
NOTE: The choices are 0m 30s, 1m 0s, 2m 0s, 5m 0s, and No Limit per turn. The default is No Limit per turn .
3. Hints are automatically disabled in Single-Card Download games.
4. Browsing through the dictionary is automatically disabled in Single-Card Download games.
5. Challenging (allowing players to challenge each others' words if they're in doubt) can be turned on and off by tapping the circle to the left of Challenging.
6. Recycle Blanks (allowing players to swap a letter tile for an in-use, matching blank) can be turned on and off by tapping the circle to the left of Challenging.
7. When all options are set as desired, the host taps on the green check mark (above "SELECT") in the bottom right corner of the touch screen.
(There are no features or options for SLAM Scrabble.)
1. The host sets the game clock (the total amount of time each player has) by dragging the yellow dot left and right along the bar.
NOTE: The choices are 10m on the clock, 15m on the clock, 20m on the clock, and 25m on the clock. The default is 15m on the clock.
2. Hints are automatically disabled in Single-Card Download games.
3. Browsing through the dictionary is automatically disabled in Single-Card Download games.
4. Challenging (allowing players to challenge each others' words if they're in doubt) can be turned on and off by tapping the circle to the left of Challenging.

Game Controls / How To Play
CLASSIC and SPEED Scrabble:
1. Place a tile: touch a tile in your tray (below the board) with the stylus, drag it (without lifting the stylus from the screen), and then lift the stylus from the screen.
2. Zoom in: double-tap on the part of the board you want to zoom in on.
3. Move around (while zoomed in): touch the board with the stylus and (without lifting the stylus from the screen), drag the board around.
6. Reorganize the tiles in your tray: touch a tile in your tray with the stylus, drag it elsewhere in the tray, and then lift the stylus from the screen.
5. Shuffle the tiles in your tray: tap the "Shuffle Tiles" button (the second circle from the right in the bottom edge of the touch screen).
4. Recall all tiles from this turn to your tray: tap the "Shuffle Tiles" button (the second circle from the right in the bottom edge of the touch screen).
7. Submit your word: tap the green Submit Word ( >| ) button in the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
8. Pass (without submitting a word): tap the green Submit Word ( >| ) button in the bottom right corner of the lower screen without placing any tiles.
1. Each player is dealt twenty three (23) double-sided cards.
2. Each side of each card contains a letter (usually, the two letters on each card are different, but not always).
3. A four letter word is dealt into the four playable slots at the top of the touch screen.
4. Players play cards from the hands onto one of the four playable slots, replacing one of the letters in the word with another letter and forming a new word.
5. When a player runs out of cards (or when no players can play a card for a full sixty (60) seconds, the game is over.
6. Players can flip over one card by tapping the "Flip Card" button in the bottom center of the touch screen or by double-tapping the card.
7. Players can flip over all cards by tapping the "Flip All Cards" button in the bottom left corner of the touch screen.
8. Both players share the same four playable slots; if two players are trying to make an identical play, the fastest player will be able to make the play.
9. A letter cannot replace another copy of the same letter.
What To Look For
1. On the non-touch screen, each player's profile picture and score are displayed at the top of the screen.
2. On the non-touch screen, the current player's position (rank) is displayed beneath the profile pictures.
3. On the non-touch screen, the current player's top word score is displayed beneath their position.
4. On the non-touch screen, the current player's level is displayed beneath their top word score.
5. On the non-touch screen, the current player's earned skill point score is displayed underneath their level.
6. On the non-touch screen, the last word played (when applicable) is displayed beneath the current player's skill point score.
7. On the non-touch screen, the last word's definition(s) (when applicable) is/are displayed beneath the last word played.
8. On the touch screen, the gameboard will be displayed in the top two-thirds (2/3) of the screen.
9. On the touch screen, your letter tile tray (the letters you currently have access to) will be displayed beneath the gameboard.
10. On the touch screen, the number of tiles still in the tile bag (not yet distributed) is displayed in the bottom left corner.
11. On the touch screen, the Submit Word button ( >| ) / the Waiting symbol (turning gears) is in the bottom right corner.
12. On the touch screen, the Shuffle Tiles button is to the left of the Submit Word button / Waiting symbol.
1. On the non-touch screen, each player's profile picture and score are displayed.
2. On the touch screen, the four playable slots are at the top of the screen.
3. On the touch screen, your hand of double-sided cards are displayed in the center of the screen.
4. On the touch screen, the "Flip All Cards" button is in the bottom left corner.
5. On the touch screen, the "Flip Card" button is in the middle of the bottom edge.
