Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When "Touch the Touch Screen" blinks on the lower screen, the host taps anywhere on the lower screen.
Downloading
1. The host taps "Multiplayer" (the second bar from the top).
2. The host taps "DS Downloads Play" (the bottom bar).
3. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
4. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
5. When the graphic bar appears saying "PUZZLE DE HARVEST MOON", the guests tap on it.
6. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
7. When the host's DS says that the correct number of gueses are connected (top right corner of the lower screen), the host taps "Send Data" in the center of the screen.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. After the download has completed, the host taps "Host Group" (the top bar).
2. The host selects a game mode by tapping on its bar on the lower screen...
2a. Normal Mode: 4-player mode where all four players are on their own. Computer players fill in the empty slots up to four.
2b. 2 vs. 2 Mode: 4-player mode where there are two cooperative teams of two players each. Computer players fill in the empty slots up to four.
2c. Quota Mode: Harvest the most of that season's specified (at the top of the upper screen) crop to win.
3. The guest(s) tap "Join Group" on the lower screen.
4. Players select their character from the list by tapping on their picture (to highlight them) and then tapping "OK" in the bottom right corner.
5. Next, the host will select the game's time limit by tapping on the desired time (to highlight it) and then tapping "OK" in the bottom right corner.
6. For quota mode, the host also assigns teams by tapping one name to select it and tapping another name to swap it with.
7. All guests accept the settings by tapping "OK" in the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
8. Players select their own difficulty level (1, the easiest, through 5) by tapping on the desired number (to highlight it) and then tapping "OK" in the bottom right corner.
Game Controls / How To Play
1. Drag and drop items from the Action Bar onto the different squares of the garden. Items have different effects. Items include...
1a. Item - Seeds (small): Drag the picture of 3 little seeds & drop them onto the field to plant a 1x1 area.
1b. Item - Seeds (large): Drag the picture of 9 little seeds & drop them onto the field to plant a 2x2 area.
1c. Item - Fertilizer (small): Drag the picture of 1 fertilizer bag & drop it onto the field to fertilize a 1x1 area.
1d. Item - Fertilizer (medium): Drag the picture of 2 fertilizer bags & drop it onto the field to fertilize the target square & the four diagonal squares.
1e. Item - Fertilizer (large): Drag the picture of 3 fertilizer bags & drop it onto the field to fertilize a 3x3 area.
1f. Item - Water (small): Drag the picture of 1 watering can & drop it onto the field to fertilize a 1x1 area.
1g. Item - Water (medium): Drag the picture of 2 watering cans & drop it onto the field to fertilize the target square & the four adjacent squares.
1h. Item - Water (large): Drag the picture of 3 watering cans & drop it onto the field to fertilize a 3x3 area.
1i. Item - Basket: Drag the picture of the basket on crops ready to be harvested to automatically harvest the entire crop.
2. Harvesting By Hand: When you don't have a basket, you can draw a line back & forth over completed crops to harvest them (slowly) by hand.
3. When you harvest your own crops, you'll get full points. When you harvest your opponents crops, you'll get half points (anf they'll get none).
4. Planting seeds next to an opponent's plants can change them to your color (make them yours).
5. Drag and drop animals from the Action Bar onto the different squares of the garden. An animal will appear and perform a task. Animals include...
5a. Animal - Chicken (white/red): A normal chicken will eat all seeds in a 2x2 area and patrol it for a while, continuing to eat all seeds planted there.
5b. Animal - Chicken (golden): A golden chicken will eat all seeds in the field and patrol it for a while, continuing to eat all seeds planted there.
5c. Animal - Sheep (pink): A normal sheep, when placed on an opponent's plot, will cause your opponent to only have access to one Action Bar item.
5d. Animal - Sheep (golden): A golden sheep, when placed on any opponent's plot, will cause all opponents to only have access to one Action Bar item.
5e. Animal - Cow (white/gray): A normal cow, when placed on an opponent's plot, will make a 2x2 area entirely inaccessable for a short time.
5f. Animal - Cow (golden): A golden cow, when placed on the field, will cause those crops to grow twice as fast.
5g. Animal - Horse (brown): A normal horse, when placed on an opponent's plot (up to a 2x2 area) will cause those crops to change to your color.
5h. Animal - Horse (golden): A golden horse, when placed on the field, will cause all crops to change to your color.
5i. Animal - Dog (light tan): A normal dog, when placed on a 2x2 area on the field, will make that area unharvestable to other players for a short time.
5j. Animal - Dog (golden): A golden dog, when place on the field, will make the entire field unharvestable to other players for a short time.
6. An animal cannot be placed where another animal already is.
7. To remove an item or an animal from your Action Bar, quickly double-tap the item (this action will cost you 20 points each time).
What To Look For
1. On the upper screen, each player's character picture will be shown with their crop color behind the chartacter picture.
2. On the upper screen, each player's score is displayed beneath their character picture.
3. On the upper screen, the current season's specified crop is displayed at the very top edge of the screen (Quota Mode only).
4. On the lower screen, the growing field (a 7-wide-by-5-high area) is displayed.
5. On the lower screen, the Action Bar (which is five items high) is displayed along the right edge of the screen.
6. On the lower screen, the Timing Bar (which indicates how much time is left) is displayed along the top edge of the screen; the red shinks to the left as time passes.
7. On the lower screen, the Current Rank Position (indicating who is leading) is located along the left edge of the screen.
Overall Goals
1. Score the most points.
2. Harvest the most crops.
3. Harvest your own crops and then other famers' crops.
