This year, at Origins Game Fair 2009, DSSingleCard.com will again be hosting the Nintendo DS program.
So, what does all of this mean and how will it all work?
Question #1: What is Single-Card Download?
Answer: Single-Card Download is an ability that the Nintendo DS has that allows (up to) 16 people to play a game and only one of those people
needs to own a copy of the game. Single-Card Download features include Vs Play (head-to-head competition), Co-op Play (cooperative play), Mini Games
(smaller games, not part of the main game), and Demos (where you can download a copy of the game that you can play solo).
Question #2: Who can participate?
Answer: Any attendee (with a full convention badge) of the 2009 Origins Game Fair that has a Nintendo DS system with them is welcome to
participate (charging up your Nintendo DS system must be done on your own time).
Question #3: What do you need to bring?
Answer 3a: You will need to bring your Nintendo DS system.
Answer 3b: You will need to bring your Nintendo DS charging cable (and charge it up each night in your Hotel room).
Answer 3c: For some games, you will need to own (and bring) your own copy of the game (see below for details).
Question #4: Does it cost anything to participate?
Answer, Part 4a: Each event will cost the event minimum ($2). Players purchase either one specific event ticket or one generic token from the convention and bring it to the event.
Answer, Part 4b: Anyone wishing to pre-register for any of these events can do so at www.OriginsGameFair.com as long as their badge is already purchased/reserved.
Answer, Part 4c: The specific event numbers needed to pre-order any of these events will be listed below with the events' names when available.
Question #5: What games will be featured?
Answer, Part A: The following tournaments will require you to own and bring your own copy of the game...
- Guitar Hero: Modern Hits (if released in time for Origins)
- Guitar Hero: On Tour - Decades
- Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (any)

Guitar Hero: Modern Hits (Wed @ 6pm)
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system, Guitar Hero: Modern Hits game, Guitar Hero grip
- How it will work: Vs competition using preselected songs
- Other: This event will only take place if the game is released before Origins Game Fair 2009 begins.
- Other: The game must be the actual game chip; hacks and illegal copies of games are banned.
Guitar Hero: On Tour (Wed @ 4pm)
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system, Guitar Hero: On Tour game, Guitar Hero grip
- How it will work: Vs competition using preselected songs
- Other: The game must be the actual game chip; hacks and illegal copies of games are banned.
Guitar Hero: On Tour - Decades (Wed @ 5pm)
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system, Guitar Hero: On Tour - Decades game, Guitar Hero grip
- How it will work: Vs competition using preselected songs
- Other: The game must be the actual game chip; hacks and illegal copies of games are banned.
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system
- How it will work: players will race on four tracks per round
- Special Rules: all players will download the game
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system
- How it will work: one-on-one in a best 3 of 5 (per round)
- Special Rules: all players will download the game
New Super Mario Bros. (Wed @ 12pm)
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system, New Super Mario Bros. game
- How it will work: qualifying rounds are progress-based, finals will be Vs head-to-head
- Other: The game must be the actual game chip; hacks and illegal copies of games are banned.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum -- Juniors (Sat @ 6pm)
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system, Pokemon (Diamond or Pearl or Platinum) game
- How it will work: all Pokemon must be level 10 or below
- Banned Pokemon: Arceus, Darkrai, Deoxys, Dialgia, Giratina, Groudon, Ho-oh, Kyogre, Latias, Latios, Lugia, Manaphy, Mew, Mewtwo, Palkia, & Rayquaza
- Special Rules: Reveal 6 Pokemon to your opponent, then secretly choose 3 to battle with.
- Special Rules: The participants in this event can CHOOSE to ban more Pokemon or add rules IF they ALL agree.
- Other: The game must be the actual game chip; hacks and illegal copies of games are banned.
- Other: This is NOT a Pokemon USA sponsored event.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum -- Tournament Qualifier (Wed @ 2pm / Thu @ 2pm / Fri @ 4pm / Sat @ 12pm)
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system, Pokemon (Diamond or Pearl or Platinum) game
- How it will work: you can battle at any level, but you likely won't be very successful if you're not using level 100s
- Banned Pokemon: Arceus, Darkrai, Deoxys, Dialgia, Giratina, Groudon, Ho-oh, Kyogre, Latias, Latios, Lugia, Manaphy, Mew, Mewtwo, Palkia, & Rayquaza
- Special Rules: Reveal 6 Pokemon to your opponent, then secretly choose 3 to battle with.
- Special Rules: The participants in each qualifier can CHOOSE to ban more Pokemon or add rules IF they ALL agree.
- Other: If you place in the top of each qualifying round, you advance to the finals (Sun @ 2pm)
- Other: The game must be the actual game chip; hacks and illegal copies of games are banned.
- Other: This is NOT a Pokemon USA sponsored event.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum -- Tournament Finals (Sun @ 2pm)
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system, Pokemon (Diamond or Pearl or Platinum) game
- How it will work: all Pokemon must be level 10 or below
- Banned Pokemon: Arceus, Darkrai, Deoxys, Dialgia, Giratina, Groudon, Ho-oh, Kyogre, Latias, Latios, Lugia, Manaphy, Mew, Mewtwo, Palkia, & Rayquaza
- Special Rules: Reveal 6 Pokemon to your opponent, then secretly choose 3 to battle with.
- Special Rules: The participants in the finals can CHOOSE to ban more Pokemon or add rules IF they ALL agree.
- Other: To play in the finals, you must place in the top of a qualifying round (Wed @ 2pm / Thu @ 2pm / Fri @ 4pm / Sat @ 12pm)
- Other: The game must be the actual game chip; hacks and illegal copies of games are banned.
- Other: This is NOT a Pokemon USA sponsored event.
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system
- How it will work: one-on-one in a best 3 of 5 (per round)
- Special Rules: all players will download the game
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system
- How it will work: the first person to three wins advances
- Special Rules: all players will download the game
- What you need: any charged Nintendo DS system
- How it will work: this is a speed tournament (over 3 rounds)
- Special Rules: all players will download the game
Question #8: Where will all of this take place?
Answer, Part A: The Nintendo DS area will be located in the hallway outside the Tabletop Hall. This area will NOT be manned when there are no events going on. Information can be gathered at the Boardgame Lending Library in the Tabletop Hall.
Answer, Part B: Occasionally, events may need to be moved (based on size). If this is the case, the event wouldn't move until after participants have arrived and a sign will be left at the booth with the new location.
