Setup & Timing
I hate to start out on a sour note (especially for a good game), but the game absolutely prevents you from picku-and-play the first time the game is booted up. Before playing the Single-Card Download aspect of My Word Coach, you must create a profile. Before you can create a profile, you must go through a multi-step process that can take as much as ten to fifteen minutes (depending on the player). After the profile exists, the Single-Card Download functions can be accessed without entering the profile.
Menus & Navigation
Menus (once they can be accessed) are very responsive, with sufficient target size and buffer space.
Ease Of Use / Play Control
The game mechanics for both the Demo and the Vs Play (it really is the same game, anyway) involve only simple tapping. You've got to know what to tap on and in what order, but it's all just tapping. Other than that, the letters are large enough to read clearly, both in the word list and on the constaly falling tiles.
Category Score: 12.5 / 15
Content
Motion is smooth and graphics are well-textured, more than is necessary in a word puzzle game, The sound is not essential, but the sound effects keep you informed when tiles drop or other incidents occur. There aren't many options, but there isn't call for many either. A difficulty setting would have been nice.
Overall Fun
My Word Coach's Single-Card Download functions are extremely simple (as opposed to complex), but extremely challenging (particularly in the later on). The mark of a great title is one that you can pick up and play immediately but you need to devote lots of time to it if you want to master it. With My Word Coach as a title, you can NOT just pick it up and play it (thanks to its exceedingly long profile creation process but, once you can get to My Word Coach the game (both "Send Demo" and "Cube Battle") it becomes a pick-up-and-play scenario. The game itself (like I said earlier, both the Demo and the Cube Battle are slight variations on each other) is highly addictive and I caught myself playing it longer than I needed to complete the review (I seriously didn't want to stop playing it). It'll definitely be seeing the light of day again, both for my personal game playing time and for some of my future live events.
Allow for Single-Card Download Play prior to creating a profile.
