Setup & Timing
MySims is definitely set up with new users and users unfamiliar with the Sims franchise in mind (having played another Sims game in not necessary; this can be the first). "DS Wireless Communications" is right on the main menu. "Present" is a little more ambiguous, but discoverable (it's a word now). Opening credits are unskippable, but short. Download time was approximately 35 seconds.
Menus & Navigation
The menu items are large, legible, and sufficiently spaced. 'Nuff said.
Ease Of Use / Play Control
The ability to move forwards (left) and backwards (right) is simple enough; the character even tilts accordingly. The ability to move up and down by using the control pad works alright as well, but gets off to a slow start. Going up quickly by blowing into the microphone works really well as long as the desired destination is the very tip top of the screen. Going down quickly by pressing the "B" button is not nearly as easily controlled, often sending you further down than desired and elliciting a blow into the microphone which then overcompensates and sends the character back to the height they started at (or higher).
Content
Visually, MySims has a nice graphical style. Each of the characters is unique and, based on shape, is oddly reminiscent of the little character toys made by LEGOS. (It's harder to see in Paragliding because the paraglider is wearing a helmet, but you can tell in the opening screen/sequence.) The sound consists of pleasant background music and sound effects when jewels are collected and when the wind effects the paraglider. Unfortunately, the sound effects don't warn you when birds are coming (which would be extremely useful when it comes to the fast-moving, elevation-changing birds), so the game can be played with the sound off (the music does set the tone nicely, though). There are no selectable features.
Overall Fun
For a downloadable demo mini game, MySims's Paragliding is fun. It's like a cross between the original NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) game Balloon Fight and the Nintendo DS game Yoshi Touch & Go. It's the type of mini game you can play over and over again just trying to beat your high score and getting a longer distance. No other motivation is required. On the other side of the coin, fans of long, deep gaming experience will find this mini game lacking. On the other hand, fans of retro gaming will love this one. After all, everyone does have their own preferences in what types of games they like. In any case, it's a fun little romp for casual gamers and gives an accurate depiction of what achieving goals in the main game is like.
Allow the host to control the birds in a multiplayer version of Paragliding.
Offer several downloadable demo mini game selections and several multiplayer downloadable mini game selections.
Include one side task in the main game that requires a Single-Card Download connection with a friend in order to receive the help the task requires for completion.
Overall Single-Card Download Rating: 80 / 100 (a.k.a. 40/50)
