Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
Downloading & Game Selection
1. The host taps on "MHA Matchup" (the bottom option).
2. The host taps on "DS Download Play" (the bottom option).
3. The host taps on either "Dribble Race" (the left option) or "Coin Hunter" (the right option) and then taps "OK" at the bottom center of the screen.
4. If "Dribble Race" was selected...
4a. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
4b. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
4c. When the graphic bar appears saying "Mario Hoops 3-on-3 Dribble Race", the guests tap on it.
4d. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
4e. When the host's DS says that all guests trying to connect are connected, the host taps "Start" in the bottom center of the screen.
5. If "Coin Hunter" was selected...
5a. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
5b. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
5c. When the graphic bar appears saying "Mario Hoops 3-on-3 Coin Hunter", the guests tap on it.
5d. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
5e. When the host's DS says that all guests trying to connect are connected, the host taps "Start" in the bottom center of the screen.
Feature/Options Selection
1. Each player selects the character they want to play as...
1a. Touch the stylus to the desired character.
1b. Without lifting the stylus from the screen, drag the character to the correct hoop (the one that says "OK?").
1c. When the character is above the correct hoop, lift the stylus from the screen.
1d. When character selection is complete, players tap "OK" at the bottom of their hoop.
2. Dribble Race: The host then selects the course...
2a. To select Peach's Castle, the host taps the top bar.
2b. To select Sunshine Road, the host taps the bottom bar.
2c. When the course is selected, the host taps "OK" at the bottom center of the lower screen.
3. Coin Hunter: The host then selects the course...
3a. To select Mario Classic 1-1, the host taps the top bar.
3b. To select Mario Classic 8-4, the host taps the bottom bar.
3c. When the course is selected, the host taps "OK" at the bottom center of the lower screen.
Game Controls / How To Play
1. Movement is controlled using the direction pad.
2. There are two types of dribbling: automatic and intentional.
3. Automatic dribbling occurs whenever the character is walking.
4. Intentional dribbling occurs when the player taps on the lower screen.
5. Wherever the lower screen is tapped (in relation to the lower screen's center), that's what part of the body the character dribbles on.
5a. Example 1: If the player dribbles to the left of the lower's screen center, the ball is intentionally dribbled to the left of the character.
5b. Example 2: If the player dribbles above the lower screen's center, the ball is intentionally dribbled on the far side of the character.
6. When the ball is intentionally dribbled on a Question Mark Square, a coin will be collected.
7. Question Mark Squares contain five to ten coins and can either move or be stationary.
8. If a character is hit, coins will pop out of the character and end up on the board and can be collected by any character.
9. When a character collects one hundred (100) coins and then crosses the finish line, they win.
10. To make the camera angle zoom in or out, press the "R" button.
1. Each player starts out with fifty (50) coins.
2. Movement is controlled using the direction pad.
3. On the ground, Question Mark Squares contain items.
4. Walk onto a Question Mark square to receive the item it contains.
5. If the item is throwable (shell, bomb, banana, etc.), draw a quick line from the center of the lower screen in the direction it will be thrown.
NOTE: The direction is relative to where your character is facing on the upper screen and not the overhead map on the lower screen.
6. If the item is a power-up, its effects will begin immediately.
7. Whenever a character if affected by an item, they lose coins.
8. If a character's coin count reaches zero, that character is out of the game.
9. When only one character remains, or if a character reaches one hundred coins, the game is over.
10. To make the camera angle zoom in or out, press the "R" button.
11. To straighten out the camera angle, press the "L" button.
What To Look For
1. On the upper screen, the number of coins your character has collected is graphically displayed in the top left corner.
2. On the upper screen, the current amount of time elapsed is displayed in the bottom right corner.
3. On the lower screen, an overhead map of the course is displayed.
4. On the lower screen, players' names, characters, and current coin totals are displayed along the left and right sides of the screen.
1. On the upper screen, the number of coins your character has is graphically displayed in the top left corner.

3. On the lower screen, an overhead map of the course is displayed.

Overall Goals
1. Collect 100 coins first.
2. Be the first player to cross the finish line after collecting 100 coins.
1. Attack the other players and knock their coins away.
2. Pick up the coins that other players lose.
