Pay close attention to the conversations that occur and are transcribed onto the screen. The conversations will provide information and hints/clues to what's going on.
Hint #2 - Practice Makes Pouncing
Of the three special abilities available, the most complicated skill is the jumping. Once Kowalski is rescued, feel free to practice jumping a few times to get used to aiming the jump.
