Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When "Touch the screen!" appears on the lower screen, tap anywhere on the lower screen to procede.
4. If this is the first time the game is played, the game will automatically create a new file.
NOTE: When "A file has been created." appears on the lower screen, tap anywhere on the lower screen to procede.
5. If you do not have a saved game, tap on either "New Game!" option on the lower screen.
5a. For a new saved game file, you'll be asked to enter your name. The default will be the first (up to) 8 characters of your system's name.
5b. To erase a letter, tap the green "back arrow" on the right side of the lower screen.
5c. To switch back and forth between English, Latin, Japanese, Punctuation, and Symbol characters, tap their respective symbols below the name on the lower screen.
5d. When the name is entered successfully, tap "OK" near the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
5e. To confirm the name, tap "Yes" on the right center of the lower screen.
5f. The game will ask which hand you hold the stylus in. Tap "Right" if you're right-handed or "Left" if you're left-handed on the right center of the lower screen.
5g. To confirm your handedness, tap "Yes" on the right center of the lower screen.
6. Tap on the saved game of your choice on the lower screen.
7. To begin the game, tap "Start" in the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
Downloading
1. The host taps "Battle" on the lower screen.
2. The host taps "DS Download Play" on the lower screen (the third option from the top on the left).
3. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
4. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
5. When the graphic bar appears saying "Phantom Hourglass", the guests tap on it.
6. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
7. The host's system will ask you to confirm your opponent and the host taps "OK" on the lower screen to continue.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. The host will have 20 seconds to select a stage (1 through 8) or to have the game select the stage ("Random").
2. If the time runs out, the game will randomly select the stage.
3. In between games, the player who lost the last game will be the one to select the stage for the next stage.
Game Controls / How To Play
While controlling Link...
1. Movement: Touch any part of the floor on the lower screen and link will move in that direction. The further the stylus is from Link, the quicker he moves.
2. Picking Up Force Gems: Tap once on a Force Gem to pick it up.
3. Putting Down Force Gems: Tap once on the floor immediately next to Link while holding a Force Gem to put it down.
4. Throwing Force Gems: Tap once on the floor in a location not next to Link and Link will throw the Force Gem in that direction.
5. Picking Up Items: Make Link walk into the item/capsule and if it is the same color as Link's clothing, Link will pick it up.
6. Wind Walls: Link can not walk through Wind Walls, but he can throw Force Gems through them.
7. Red Base: Red Link throws/puts Force Gems in the Red Base (the floor is red in both the level and the map) to score points.
8. Blue Base: Blue Link throws/puts Force Gems in the Blue Base (the floor is blue in both the level and the map) to score points.
9. Safe Zones: Safe Zones appear yellow on the battlefield and purple on the map. Force Gems throw/put here lose their affiliation (if any).
10. Seeing The Phantoms: Link can always see the Phantoms on the battlefield. Link can see the Phantoms on the map while holding a Force Gem.
While controlling the Phantoms...
1. Movement: Touch a Phantom on the map with the stylus & draw a line for the Phantom follow. When you lift the stylus from the screen, the Phantom will walk.
2. Stopping Movement: To stop a moving Phantom, tap on it.
3. Changing The View: To change the vie from one Phantom to another, tap on the Phantom or use the "L" and "R" buttons.
4. Picking Up Items: Make Link walk into the item/capsule and if it is the same color as Link's clothing, Link will pick it up.
5. Wind Walls: Phantoms can walk through Wind Walls.
6. Bases & Safe Zones: Phantoms cannot see Link when he is in any base or any safe zone.
What To Look For
1. As Link: On the lower screen, the number of points the red player has earned is displayed in the top left corner.
2. As Link: On the lower screen, the number of points the blue player has earned it displayed in the top right corner.
3. As Link: On the lower screen, the number of the current battle stage is displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen.
4. As Link: On the lower screen, the amount of time remaining is displayed in the bottom center of the lower screen.
5. As Link: On the lower screen, the current battle round number (out of three) is displayed in the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
6. Phantoms: On the upper screen, the number of points the red player has earned is displayed in the top left corner.
7. Phantoms: On the upper screen, the number of points the blue player has earned it displayed in the top right corner.
8. Phantoms: On the upper screen, the number of the current battle stage is displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen.
9. Phantoms: On the upper screen, the amount of time remaining is displayed in the bottom center of the lower screen.
10. Phantoms: On the upper screen, the current battle round number (out of three) is displayed in the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
Overall Goals
1. Earn as many points as possible.
2. Stop your opponent from earning points.
3. Avoid the Phantoms (Link).
