Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. To nskip through (most of) the opening sequence, the host can press the "A" button.
4. When the lower screen says "Tap the screen to continue" across the top of the screen, the host taps the lower screen.
Downloading
1. The host taps "Multiplayer" (the second option from the top, not counting "Main Menu").
2. The host taps "Single Card Play" (the third option from the top, not counting "Multiplayer").
3. The host then taps "Send Game" (the top option, not counting "SINGLE CARD PLAY").
4. The guest will power on their Nintendo DS system.
5. The guest taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
6. When the graphic bar appears saying "Harry Potter OOTP", the guest taps on it.
7. The guest's DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. At this point, the guest will have a demo that can be played single-player or multi-player with the host (but not with another guest).
2. If the guest wants to play single player games...
2a. The guest has the ability to adjust the volume level of the sound effects and the game's brightness by tapping "Options" on the demo's main menu.
2b. To adjust the volume level of the sound effects or the brightness, touch the appropriate vertical marker and drag it left or right.
2c. When the level(s) are at a comfortable level, lift the stylus from the screen.
2d. To lock in any changes made, tap "Back" on the Options menu.
2e. When both the sound effects and brightness levels are where you want them and you'r back on the demo's main menu, tap "Single Player" for the game list.
2f. To play a game, tap its name on the single player game list.
2g. Games that can be played in single player format in this demo are Gobstones, History of Magic, Potions, and Chocolate Frogs.
3. If the guest wants to play multiplayer games with the host...
3a. The host will tap "Back" from the screen that sends out the game's demo.
3b. The host (now on the "SINGLE CARD PLAY" menu) taps "Host Single Card Play Game" (the second option, not counting "SINGLE CARD PLAY").
3c. Next, the host selects the game that will be played: Gobstones, Chocolate Frogs, or Potions.
3d. From the demo's main menu, the guest taps "Multiplayer Join Game" (the second option from the top, not counting "Main Menu").
3e. The guest will see the name of the selected game followed by the first six letters of the host's system's name and "1/2" (the number of players).
3f. The gets taps that line of text.
3g. The host's system will say that the guest has connected and can then tap "Start Game" (the top option, not counting "2/2").
Game Controls / How To Play
1. In the game, chocolate frogs will hop from the upper screen onto the lower screen (and, occasionally, back and forth).
2. In a single player game, each of eight rounds will be timed with a ten second time limit.
3. In a multiplayer game, there will be one giant round with a status bar that must be filled in order to win.
4. There are three types of frogs: Regular Chocolate, White Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate.
4a. If you tap a Regular Chocolate frog in a single player game, it will vanish in a puff of green smoke (this is a good thing).
4a. If you tap a Regular Chocolate frog in a multiplayer game, it will vanish in a puff of green smoke and your status bar will fill up a little.
4a. If you tap a White Chocolate frog in a single player game, you will lose the game and be returned to the main menu.
4a. If you tap a White Chocolate frog in a multiplayer game, your status bar will empty out a little (this is a bad thing).
4a. If you tap a Dark Chocolate frog in a single player game, it will be as if you just tapped every Regular Chocolate frog simultaneously.
4a. If you tap a Dark Chocolate frog in a multiplayer game, your status bar will fill up about twice as much as with a Regular Chocolate frog.
5. In a single player game, if you can tap all non-White Chocolate frogs through eight rounds, you win.
6. In a multiplayer game, the first player to fill up their status bar wins.
1. In the game, the goal is to land as many of the gobstones as close to the center as possible without them falling through the hole.
2. Each player (either human and human or human and computer) begins with five gobstones.
3. On your turn, the liquid in one of your gobstones will start to bubble.
4. Touch it with the stylus and drag it around without lifting the stylus from the screen.
5. Moving quickly in a direction and letting go (lifting the stylus from the screen) without stopping will throw the gobstone.
6. The direction and velocity will be based on the movement before letting go.
7. You can aim to land your own gobstones in good locations or to knock your opponent's gobstones around.
8. Scoring is as follows...
8a. If a gobstone is not in any circles or fell through the hole, it scores zero (0) points.
8b. If a gobstone is on (or inside of) the outermost circle, it scores one (1) point.
8c. If a gobstone is on (or inside of) the second largerst circle, it scores two (2) points.
8d. If a gobstone is on (or inside of) the second smallest circle, it scores four (4) points.
8e. If a gobstone is on (or inside of) the innermost circle, it scores ten (10) points.
9. The player with the most points wins.
1. History of Magic is only available as a single player game.
2. History of Magic is a trivia game about the world of Harry Potter.
3. When the questions appear on the upper screen, four different potential answers will appear on the lower screen.
4. Tap the correct answer
5. If you tap an answer that is correct, the next question will load up automatically after a couple of seconds.
6. If you tap an answer that is incorrect, you'll need to tap the hand in the bottom right corner of the lower screen for the next question to load.
7. When the first question displays, there will be 35 seconds on the clock.
8. While playing, the clock will count down.
9. Whenever a question is answered correctly, 9 seconds are added to the clock.
10. Whenever a question is answered incorrectly, 9 seconds are removed from the clock.
11. If time on the clock runs out, the game ends.
12. If five questions are answered correctly before time runs out, you win.
1. After a three second countdown, a series of tasks will be presented one at a time.
2. Tasks must be completed to correctly create a potion and the current step is always displayed on the upper screen.
3. Tasks include adding ingredients, stirring the potion, and cooling down the potion.
4. To add ingredients, drag them from the scrolling picture list of ingredients on the right hand side of the lower screen and drop them into the pot.
5. Ingredients are often added in multiples and each icon on the scrolling picture list of ingredients can be drag-and-dropped multiple times.
6. To stir the potion, draw circles in the pot in the direction shown on the screen.
7. To cool down the potion, blow into the Nintendo DS's microphone.
8. There will be ten steps to complete in order to succeed.
What To Look For
1. On the upper screen, the current number of completed levels is checkes off in the top right corner.
2. On the upper screen, the countdown timer is displayed in the bottom left corner (single player only).
4. On the lower screen, your status bar will be located along the left edge of the screen.
5. On the lower screen, your opponent's status bar will be located along the right edge of the screen.
1. On the upper screen, the number of wins you have is displayed as check marks in the boxes in the top left corner of the screen (single player only).
2. On the upper screen, the number of wins the computer has is displayed as check marks in the boxes in the top right corner of the screen (single player only).
3. On the upper screen, the target (concentric circles) is displayed.
4. On the lower screen, the gobstones are displayed at the bottom of the screen.
1. On the upper screen, the current number of complete tasks is displayed along the upper edge of the screen.
2. On the upper screen, the current question is displayed in the center of the screen.
3. On the upper screen, the countdown timer is displayed in the bottom left corner.
4. On the lower screen, the four answers are displayed.
1. On the upper screen, the current number of completed tasks is displayed along the upper edge of the screen.
2. On the upper screen, the current task is displayed in the center of the screen.
3. On the upper screen, the countdown timer is displayd in the bottom left corner.
4. On the lower screen, the pot is displayed on the left half of the screen.
5. On the lower screen, the scrolling list of ingredients is displayed on the right half of the screen.
Overall Goals
1. Tap the Regular Chocolate and Dark Chocolate frogs.
2. Don't tap the White Chocolate frogs.
3. Don't let time run out (single player only).
1. Land your gobstones close to the center of the circles.
2. Don't let your gobstones fall through the hole in the table.
3. Score the most points.
