Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When the "Geometry Wars: Galaxies" logo appears on the lower screen, the host presses the "A" button.
4. If this is the first time the game is being played, a profile must be created.
4a. First, the host must enter a name for the profile.
4b. To navigate through the letters and numbers, press left and right on the direction pad.
4c. To select a letter, press the "A" button. The letter will appear on the highlighted-green line beneath the large letters and numbers.
4d. To delete the last letter, press the "Y" button.
4e. To return to the main menu, press the "B" button.
4f. To accept the selected name, press the "X" button. Then, to confirm the the selected name is accurate, press the "A" button.
Downloading
1. The host press down on the direction pad four (4) times (until "Connectivity" is highlighted in yellow) and then presses the "A" button.
2. "Game Share" is already highlighted in yellow. The host presses the "A" button.
3. The host then presses the "A" button to confirm that it is OK for the game to turn on Wireless Communications.
4. The guest will power on their Nintendo DS system.
5. The guest taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
6. When the graphic bar appears saying "Geometry Wars: Galaxies", the guest taps on it.
7. The guests' DS system will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
8. When the host's DS says that the guest is connected, the host presses the "A" button.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. Before beginning a game, the guest should make sure that the game's settings are to their liking.
1a. To change the settings, the guest presses down on the direction pad twice to highlight "Options" and then presses the "A" button.
1b. With "Preferences" already highlighted in yellow, pree the "A" button to change game play preferences.
NOTE: To change an option, press up or down on the direction until it is highlighted and then press right or left on the direction pad to alter the selection.
1b1. Preferences Option 1 - Stylus: Choose to have the stylus control either movement or weapons fire. (For details, see "Game Controls / How To Play" below.)
1b2. Preferences Option 2 - Handed: Choose whether you want right-handed or left-handed controls.
1b3. Preferences Option 3 - Display: Choose whether you want the action to take place on the top screen or the bottom screen.
1b4. Preferences Option 4 - Laser: Choose whether you want the targeting laser on or off.
1b5. Preferences Option 5 - Reticule: Choose whether you want the targeting icon (reticule) on or off.
1c. Highlight "Audio" in yellow by pressing down once on the direction pad and then press the "A" button to adjust sound settings.
NOTE: To change an option, press up or down on the direction until it is highlighted and then press right or left on the direction pad to alter the selection.
1c1. Audio Option 1 - Music Volume: The music's volume level can be set anywhere from 0 through 10. The default level is 8.
1c2. Audio Option 2 - Sound Volume: The sound effects' volume level can be set anywehere from 0 through 10. The default level is 8.
1d. When the options are at the desired settings, press the "B" button twice to return to the main menu.
2. There are four possible play modes: the three multiplayer modes must be initiated by the host and the Retro Evolved demo can be played separately.
3. To play the Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved demo...
3a. The guest presses up or down on the direction pad so that "Retro Evolved" is highleted in yellow.
3b. The guest then presses the "A" button.
4. Multiplayer games can also be played with the host.
5. To play a multiplayer game, the host must highlight "Multiplayer" in yellow (on the main menu) and then press the "A" button.
6. "Host Game" should already be highlighted in yellow. The host then presses the "A" button.
7. There are three types of multiplayer games.
8. The first type of multiplayer game is "Co-op" (the top option on the list).
8a. In a "Co-op" multiplayer game, two players exist in the same spatial grid and battle alongside each other.
8b. "Co-op" should already be highlighted yellow on the menu. The host presses the "A" button.
8c. The host will see: "This will turn Wireless Communications on." The host presses the "A" button to confirm.
8d. "Multi Player" should already be highlighted on the guest's menu. The guest presses the "A" button.
8e. The guest will see: "This will turn Wireless Communications on." The guest presses the "A" button to confirm.
8f. The host's system name should appear on the guest's upper screen (just beneath "Scanning..."). The guest presses the "A" button to join.
8g. The host then presses the "A" button to begin.
9. The second type of multiplayer game is "Simulataneous" (the second option from the top).
9a. In a "Simultaneous" multiplayer game, two players play in separate grids with the ability to send an occasional wave of defeated enemies at their opponent.
9b. To select "Simultaneous" on the menu, the host presses down once (so that it is highlighted in yellow) and then press the "A" button.
9c. The host will see: "This will turn Wireless Communications on." The host presses the "A" button to confirm.
9d. "Multi Player" should already be highlighted on the guest's menu. The guest presses the "A" button.
9e. The guest will see: "This will turn Wireless Communications on." The guest presses the "A" button to confirm.
9f. The host's system name should appear on the guest's upper screen (just beneath "Scanning..."). The guest presses the "A" button to join.
9g. The host then presses the "A" button to begin.
10. The third (and final) type of multiplayer game is "Versus" (the third option from the top).
10a. In a "Versus" multiplayer game, the guest only sends wave after wave of enemies at the host trying to kill them three times, while the host tries to score.
10b. To select "Versus" on the menu, the host presses down twice (so that it is highlighted in yellow) and then press the "A" button.
10c. The host will see: "This will turn Wireless Communications on." The host presses the "A" button to confirm.
10d. "Multi Player" should already be highlighted on the guest's menu. The guest presses the "A" button.
10e. The guest will see: "This will turn Wireless Communications on." The guest presses the "A" button to confirm.
10f. The host's system name should appear on the guest's upper screen (just beneath "Scanning..."). The guest presses the "A" button to join.
10g. The host then presses the "A" button to begin.
Game Controls / How To Play
1. There are four different control combinations.
2. Control Style 1: Right-Handed, Stylus Firing
2a. Movement: Use the Direction Pad (up, down, left, and right)
2b. Firing: Touch the lower screen (relative to your ship) or press the "A" or "B" or "X" or "Y" button to shoot right, down, up, and left (respectively)
2c. Bombing: Press the "L" button
3. Control Style 2: Left-Handed, Stylus Firing
3a. Movement: Press the "A" or "B" or "X" or "Y" button to move right, down, up, and left (respectively)
3b. Firing: Touch the lower screen (relative to your ship) or use the Direction Pad (up, down, left, and right)
3c. Bombing: Press the "L" button

5a. Movement: Touch the lower screen (relative to your ship) or press the "A" or "B" or "X" or "Y" button to move right, down, up, and left (respectively)
5b. Firing: Use the Direction Pad (up, down, left, and right)
5c. Bombing: Press the "L" button
What To Look For
1. On the Display Screen, the current score is displayed in the top left corner of the screen.
2. On the Display Screen, the number of ships remaining is displayed to the left of the number of bombs remaining in the top center of the screen.
3. On the Display Screen, the high score for the current stage and mode is displayed in the top right corner of the screen.
Overall Goals
1. Demo Download - Retro Evolved: Score as many points as possible.
2. Demo Download - Retro Evolved: Don't get destroyed.
3. Multiplayer - Co-op: Score as many points as possible.
4. Multiplayer - Co-op: Don't get destroyed.
5. Multiplayer - Co-op: Don't let your partner get destroyed.
6. Multiplayer - Simultaneous: Survive longer than your opponent.
7. Multiplayer - Simultaneous: Send the enemies you've defeated at your opponent.
8. Multiplayer - Versus: As the host - score 50,000 points before losing your third (and final) ship.
9. Multiplayer - Versus: As the guest - cause the host to lose their third (and final) ship before they score 50,000 points.
