Setup & Timing
Foto Frenzy is designed keeping new and casual game players in mind, so the interface is easy to use and understand. Download time is average. The opening credits are average length. "Multiplayer" is right on the main menu.
Menus & Navigation
Everything on the menu responds exactly as expected. All of the menu options are clearly labeled and each tappable area is clearly bordered with sufficient buffer space in between.
Ease Of Use / Play Control
The basic gameplay is simple: find the difference(s) between the two versions of the picture (the one on the upper screen and the one on the lower screen). Then, on the lower screen, circle the difference -- either the extra feature or the space where one is located on the upper screen. The game offers some leeway in accuracy (especially when circling something that's not there), but isn't always 100% accurate. Overall, the control is good, and the game does what's expected.
Category Score: 12.5 / 15
Content
Graphically, the game is a series of photographs. The photographs are always sharp, but they range from bright and colorful (good) to dark and indistinct (bad). Some photos are easier than others. And, while variety is good, there are no difficulty settings; the difficulty will go from simple to extremely difficult (and back again) repeatedly without consistency. There's another big problem with the photos: often times, a photo will come up a second time in the same gameplay session, despite the fact that there are many unseen photos still within the game. Audibly, there's background music, but it adds nothing to the game, and some people will find the game more enjoyable by providing smack talk at their opponents with the sound off. There are three different game modes available for Single-Card Download multiplayer.
Overall Fun
Foto Frenzy is a puzzle game (yes, a puzzle - a "find the answer" puzzle) that has an odd sort of addiction for some people; he same kind of appeal that "Where's Waldo?" books have. (The answer's right there - right in front of your face. All you have to do is find it. Can't you find it?!?) Other people may not enjoy the style at all. For what it is, it's not a bad game. It's several steps in the right direction, but it falls a little short... specifically, in variety and the lack of difficulty settings. Still, the people that enjoy this genre will definitely enjoy it. Smack talk will really bring up the enjoyment for competitive types. Anyone who thinks they might enjoy it would do well to rent it first.
Offer several different difficulties, with the differences being how hard/easy the differences are to spot.
Remove the darkest photographs and replace them with brighter photos.
Increase the variety of photographs.
Program a command into the game that prevents seeing the same photo twice in the same gameplay session.
Overall Single-Card Download Rating: 74 / 100 (a.k.a. 37/50)
