Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. Once the main title screen appears (the giant face will be on the upper screen), tap the lower screen to begin.
4. If this is your first time loading your game, it'll ask you to confirm that you want to use your system name in the game. If so, tap "Done".
4a. If you just confirmed the name, you'll have to press the "B" button to back up to the main menu.
Downloading
1. The host will tap on "Multiplayer" twice.
2. The host will then tap on "Single-Card Play" twice.
3. The system will ask "Do you want to turn DS Wireless Communications on?" Tap "Yes" twice.
4. The guest will power on their Nintendo DS system.
5. The guest tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
6. When the graphic bar appears saying "FIFA 06", the guest taps on it.
7. The guest's DS system will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
8. When the guest's name appears on the host's lower screen, the host should tap it to begin the download process.
9. About 20 seconds in, the guest's screens will change. The download will continue for another 15 seconds.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. Both players can choose to play on the home team, both on the away team, or one one on each of the teams.
2. Both players can then choose which team(s) they want to play as.
2-1. If both players chose the same team (home or away), both players can first choose the computer's team.
2-2. If both players chose the same team (home or away), both players can then choose their team.
2-3. If each player chose a different team, then each player can select their own team.
3. Teams are selected from an alphabetical list of teams using the right and left directions on the direction pad.
4. To finalized your team selection, tap on "'A' Select" in the lower right-hand corner (or press the "A" button).
5. The teams available are (in alphabetical order): Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, China PR, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugul, Rep. Ireland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United States, Uruguay, and Wales.
Note: If both players chose the same team and if one presses to the left and one to the right during team selections, the moves will cancel each other out.
6. Once both teams are selected, the game will take anouther ~14 seconds to download more information. The Play Menu will then load.
7. The first option on the Play Menu is to start the match.
8. The second option on the Play Menu is Team Management.
8-1. In Team Management, you can move players to different positions or choose which subs you put in and where.
8-2. In Team Management, the upper screen shows each player's stats including...
Speed, Shooting, Passing, Heading, Tackling, Fitness, Control, Strength, and Keeper
8-3. The upper screen will also show you a list of players that includes...
...all the subs/reserves if the player highlighted on the lower screen is a sub/reserve.
...all the players in the lineup if the player highlighted on the lower screen is in the lineup.
8-4. The lower screen will show you where each player is on the field (or on the sidelines).
8-5. The color associated with each player's number indicates their primary position...
8-5-1. Blue indicates a Midfielder.
8-5-2. Green indicates a Defender.
8-5-3. Orange indicates a Goal Keeper.
8-5-4. Red indicates an Attacker.
8-6. Tap on a player's number to highlight them (or use the direction pad), then tap on "'A' Select" or press the "A" button to select them.
8-7. Then highlight the player you're replacing, and tap on "'A' Select" or press the "A" button again.
8-8. Tap twice on "Yes" to confirm the replacement.
8-9. You can also change the player pattern on the field using the "L" and "R" buttons or tapping on the "L" or "R" on the upper right corner of the lower screen.
8-10. The default player pattern is 4-1-2-1-2. You can also select (in order listed in the game)...
1-4-3-2, 3-4-2-1, 4-3-2-1, 5-2-1-2, 5-2-2-1, 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-4, 5-4-1, 5-3-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-3-, 4-5-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-1-2, 4-4-1-1, and 3-4-1-2
8-11. Finally, you can set the Corner Taker, Free Kick Taker, Penalty Taker, and Captain by pressing the "X" button.
9. The thrid option on the Play Menu is Game Settings.
9-1. There are three pages of options you can choose. You can change the page by tapping on the page number or using the "L" and "R" buttons.
9-2. To change from one setting to another in a list, tap on the left and right arrows or use left and right on the direction pad.
9-3. Page 1 options include (defaults are underlined in the lists)...
9-3-1. Half Length. You can choose from any of the following times...
1 min., 2 min., 4 min., 6 min., 8 min., 10 min., 20 min.
9-3-2. Difficulty ("Beginner" is showed, but grayed out, and you cannot change it in this mode.)
9-3-3. Injuries. The options are On or Off.
9-3-4. Bookings. The options are On or Off.
A player is booked if they've received a yellow card (warning) or a red card (removal) as the result of a foul.
9-3-5. Offsides. The options are On or Off.
9-3-6. Extra Time. The options are On or Off.
9-4. Page 2 options include (defaults are underlined in the lists)...
9-4-1. Score Display. The options are On or Off.
9-4-2. Player Names. The options are On or Off.
9-4-3. Camera. You can choose from the following camera angles...
Sideline, End to End, Tele, Overhead, Action, Broadcast, Panoramic
9-4-4. Auto Replay. The options are On or Off.
9-4-5. Wind. You can select from the following wind ferocities...
9-4-6. Pitch Type. You can choose from the following field conditions...
Normal, Hard, Wet, Soggy, Icy, Random
9-5. On Page 3, you can choose the stadium. The following stadiums are selectable (the default is underlined in the list)...

10. The fourth (and final) option on the Play Menu is Scenario Options.
10-1. There are three pages of options you can choose. You can change the page by tapping on the page number or using the "L" and "R" buttons.

10-3-1. Scenarios. The options are On or Off.
If Scenarios are off, all other Scenario Options will not be selectable.

If Extra Time 1 or Extra Time 2 is selected, the Away Score will automatically be the same as the Home Score.
If Penalties is selected, the Away Score will be the same as the Home Score and Time Remaining & Ball Location (Page 2) will be disabled.
10-3-5. Time Remaining. You can choose to have the following amount of time remaining...
5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, 20 mins, 25 mins, 30 mins, 35 mins, 40 mins, 45 mins
10-3-6. Possession. The options are Away or Home.
10-4. Page 2 options include (defaults are underlined in the lists)...
10-4-1. Extra Time. Your penalty shootout options include...
Normal, Golden Goal, Silver Goal, None
10-4-2. Penalties. The options are On or Off.
10-4-3. Ball Location. You can choose from the following ball locations...

3. To exit a replay, press the Start button.
What To Look For
1. If you leave yourself too vulnerable in enemy territory, the opposing team's ability to steal is increased.
2. You can choose to switch out players in the middle of the game. To access the menu, pause the game with the Start button.
3. If you want a replay, don't hesitate in pressing the Select button or it won't replay the right thing.
