Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. If this is the first time the game has been played, a save file must be created...
3a. The host types in the name for their save file (the name of the system will already be loaded and can be used or can be deleted) using the on-screen keyboard.
3b. When the name is entered the way the host wants it, they press the "A" button or tap the "A" in the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
Host-Only Settings
NOTE: These options must be set prior to the download.
1. There are several settings that the host can change for themself in both single- and multi-player racing modes.
2. To change these settings, the host taps "Options" (the bottom option) from the main menu.
3. The host then taps "Settings" (the second option from the the top).
4. By tapping on "Controls" (the top option), the host can choose their handedness (left- or right-) and their transmission: Automatic (AT) or Manual (MT).
5. By tapping on "Sound" (the middle option), the host can set Menu Music, Menu SFX, Game SFX, and Voiceover to On or Off and the Output to Stero or Surround.
6. By tapping on "Display" (the bottom option), the host can set their camera angle ("Default View") to Bumper Cam or Follow and the Speed Dial to MPH or KPH.
7. After setting all of the option in each area the way they're wanted, the host taps "Confirm" in the bottom right corner of the screen.
8. These settings will apply only to the host.
9. The guest(s) will always have right-handed controls, automatic transmission, all sounds set to On (and Stereo), Bumper Cam view, and their speed set to MPH.
Downloading
1. The host taps "Versus" (the third option from the top).
2. The host taps "Single-Card Play" (the bottom option).
3. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
4. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
5. When the graphic bar appears saying "Ferrari Challenge", the guests tap on it.
6. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
7. When the host's DS says that all guests trying to connect are connected and ready, the host taps "Confirm" in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. The host selects the track to race on (Monza or Mugello) by tapping on their choice to highlight it.
2. The host confirms their selection by tapping "Confirm" in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Game Controls / How To Play
Automatic Transmission Controls
1. Accelerate: Press the "A" button (right-handed controls) or press right on the direction pad (left-handed controls)
2. Decelerate/Brake: Press the "B" button (right-handed controls) or press down on the direction pad (left-handed controls)
3. Steer Left/Right: Press left/right on the direction pad (right-handed controls) or press the "Y"/"A" buttons (left-handed controls)
4. Look Back/Rearview Mirror: Press the "X" button (right-handed controls) or press up on the direction pad (left-handed controls)
Manual Transmission Controls
1. Accelerate: Press the "A" button (right-handed controls) or press right on the direction pad (left-handed controls)
2. Decelerate/Brake: Press the "B" button (right-handed controls) or press down on the direction pad (left-handed controls)
3. Steer Left/Right: Press left/right on the direction pad (right-handed controls) or press the "Y"/"A" buttons (left-handed controls)
4. Look Back/Rearview Mirror: Press the "X" button (right-handed controls) or press up on the direction pad (left-handed controls)
5. Change Gears: Press the "L" and "R" buttons
What To Look For
1. On the upper screen, view ahead of the car is shown.
2. On the upper screen, the total time elapsed so far in the race is displayed in the top left corner.
3. On the upper screen, the total time elapsed so far in the current lap is displayed beneath the total elapsed race time.
4. On the upper screen, your current rank in the race is displayed in the bottom left corner.
5. On the upper screen, the lap (out of three) you're currently on is displayed above your current rank.
6. On the lower screen, your current RPMs, gear, and speed are displayed in the box above the center of the screen.
7. On the lower screen, the part of the track your car is on is displayed in the box in the bottom center of the screen.
8. On the lower screen, the area around your car is shown in the box near the bottom right corner of the screen.
Overall Goals
2. Outmaneuver the other racers.
