Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When "Press Start" appears on the lower screen, the host taps the lower screen.
4. If the in-use copy of Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu hasn't been played before, the host must first create a Save Data file.
4a. The host taps on one of the "New Game" bars on the lower screen.
4b. When the system asks "Start from the beginning?" on the lower screen, the host taps the bar that reads "Yes" to proceed.
4c. Early on, the host will have to enter a name for their character/Save Data file.
4c1. To enter a letter, the host taps on it once to highlight it and once after the letter is highlighted for each time they want to select it.
4c2. To turn an already-entered letter into lower case, the host taps twice on the lowercase "a" near the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
4c3. To backup and remove the last character entered, the host taps twice on the "<--" near the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
4c4. When the host is satisfied with the name entered, the host taps "OK" in the bottom right corner of the lower screen twice.
4d. The host will then be asked if they are satisfied with the entered name.
4d1. To keep the name, the host taps "Yes, this is the name I want." once (it will already be highlighted).
4d2. To discard the name, the host taps "No, enter something else." twice (once to highlight it and again to select it).
4e. To unlock Vs.Mode, the host will first need to complete the first mission.
Downloading
1. The host taps the desired Save Data file once to highlight it (if it's not already highlighted) and once to select it once it's highlighted.
2. The game will ask, "Start with this save data?" If it is the correct file, the host taps "Yes" (it will already be highlighted).
3. The host taps "Vs.Mode" twice (once to highlight it and again to select it).
4. The host taps "DS Download Play" twice (once to highlight it and again to select it).
5. The guest will power on their Nintendo DS system.
6. The guest taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
7. When the graphic bar appears saying "Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu", the guest taps on it.
8. The guest's DS system will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
9. After the guest has connect, the host taps "Start" in the bottom right corner of their lower screen.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. All of the options must be set by the host (the guest can only watch).
2. The host (Player 1/Goku) and the guest (Player 2/Vegeta) can have their skill level set from -8 to +8.
2a. To set Goku's level, tap the "-<" and ">+" icons below Goku's name near the top left corner of the lower screen.
2b. To set Vegeta's level, tap the "-<" and ">+" icons below Vegeta's name near the top right corner of the lower screen.
2c. Goku' default level setting and Vegeta's default level setting are both 0.
3. The three combo settings must be set together.
3a. Combos allow for multiple cards to be played together with their Power Ratings, Guard Ratings, or Actions combined for greater effect.
3b. When combos (any) are in use and a combo is available, the game will inform you of the potential and of which cards you can select.
3c. The default setting for Action Combos is to not be in use (off).
3d. The default setting for Power Combos is to be in use (on).
3e. The default setting for Guard Combos is to be in use (on).
3f. All three options are linked together when they're changed.
3g. Tap the shaded options on the right once to highlight all three.
3h. Tap the shaded options again for the following settings: Action=on, Power=on, Guard=on
3i. Tap the shaded options again for the following settings: Action=off, Power=off, Guard=off
3j. Tap the shaded options again for the following settings: Action=off, Power=off, Guard=on
3k. Tap the shaded options again for the following settings: Action=off, Power=on, Guard=on
3l. Continuing to tap will cycle through these four options (in the above order).
Game Controls / How To Play
1. During gameplay, your cards and your character will be displayed on the lower screen (and your opponent's on the upper screen).
2. Five cards will be displayed.
3. Each card has a Power level, a Guard level, and an Action attributed to it.
4. The Power level, displayed as stars in the top left corner of a card, ranges from one through seven, and "Z" counts as an eight.
5. The Guard level, displayed in the bottom right corner of a card, ranges from one through seven, and "Z" counts as an eight.
6. Card actions, displayed as symbol in the middle of a card, include Energy, Reverse, Strike, and Training.
6a. Energy cards denote an attempt to raise your other cards' Power levels.
6b. Reverse cards will swap your Power level with your opponent's Power level in an attempt to attack.
6c. Strike cards denote an attempt to attack.
6d. Training cards denote an attempt to raise your other cards' Guard levels.
6e. Other card types (Event, Hide, Use, and Z) don't appear in the Single-Card Download game.
7. Each turn, players will select a card to play by tapping on the card they wish to play.
7a. Any card is playable on any turn.
7b. Card are selected by personal choice based on a player's own personal strategies.
8. If Guard Combos are set to On (Use)...
8a. If a player plays a card and they have other cards in their hand with the same Guard level, they can add those cards to the first card.
8b. The game will say, "You can do a combo!" if you're the host, or just show the options if you're the guest.
8c. Combo boxes will appear near the top right corner of the lower screen.
8d. If a combo box displays a number in the bottom right corner of the combo box, that is a Guard combo and the number is the combined Guard level.
8e. The combo box with a giant "X" in it indicates that you don't want to perform a combo.
8f. If there are multiple cards that can be part of the combo, you must either add ALL of them to the combo or choose to not perform the combo.
8g. The Power level will be from first card, the Guard level will be the combined Guard level of all cards, and the Action will be that of the first card.
9. If Power Combos are set to On (Use)...
9a. If a player plays a card and they have other cards in their hand with the same Power level, they can add those cards to the first card.
9b. The game will say, "You can do a combo!" if you're the host, or just show the options if you're the guest.
9c. Combo boxes will appear near the top right corner of the lower screen.
9d. If a combo box displays a number in the top left corner of the combo box, that is a Power combo and the number is the combined Power level.
9e. The combo box with a giant "X" in it indicates that you don't want to perform a combo.
9f. If there are multiple cards that can be part of the combo, you must either add ALL of them to the combo or choose to not perform the combo.
9g. The Power level will be the combined Power level of all cards, the Guard level will be from the first card, and the Action will be that of the first card.
10. If Action Combos are set to On (Use)...
10a. If a player plays a card and they have other cards in their hand with the same Action, they can add those cards to the first card.
10b. The game will say, "You can do a combo!" if you're the host, or just show the options if you're the guest.
10c. Combo boxes will appear near the top right corner of the lower screen.
10d. If a combo box displays a number in the top left and bottom right corners of the combo box, that is an Action combo and the number are the combined levels.
10e. The combo box with a giant "X" in it indicates that you don't want to perform a combo.
10f. If there are multiple cards that can be part of the combo, you must either add ALL of them to the combo or choose to not perform the combo.
10g. The Power level will be the combined Power level of all cards and the Guard level will be the combined Guard level of all cards.
11. If more than one type of combos are set to On (Use)...
11a. If a combo is available, there will be either two (Guard and Power) or three (Guard, Power, and Action) combo boxes in addition to the giant "X" combo box.
11b. If not all combo types are available, the unavailable combo type's boxes will be blacked out.
11c. If more than one combo is available, tap the combo type that you want to perform.
12. After both players have made their card selections, the cards are compared and the player whose card(s) have the highest power get to complete their action.
13. If the Powers are equal, it is a draw and the number the players tied at is added to the winner of the next round (repeated for multiple consecutive ties).
14. If the winning Action is Energy, the remaining cards in the winner's hand will have their Power levels increased (the higher the Energy's power, the greater the increase).
15. If the winning Action is Reverse, the numbers are switched and if the player that played Reverse won, they attack with their new power level.
NOTE: If the winner was the player who played Reverse, they attack with their new (swapped) Power level and their opponent defends with their own Guard level.
16. If the winning Action is Strike, the player attacks with their Power level and their opponent defends with their Guard level.
17. If the winning Action is Training, the remaining cards in the winner's hand will have their Guard levels increased (the higher the Training's power, the greater the increase).
18. At the beginning of their next turn, new cards are drawn so that there are always five cards to select from.
19. When a character runs out of health, they are knocked out and lose the match.
What To Look For
1. On the upper screen, your opponent's health is the green bar near the top right corner.
2. On the upper screen, your opponent's character is displayed near the top left corner.
3. On the lower screen, your character is displayed near the top right corner.
4. On the lower screen, your health is the green bar to the left of your character's portrait.
5. On the lower screen, your cards are displayed across the bottom half of the screen.
5a. Each card's Power level is displayed in the top left corner of the card (each star counts as one, "Z" counts as eight).
5b. Each card's Guard level is displayed in the bottom right corner of the card ("Z" counts as eight).
5c. Each card's Action is displayed almost dead-center in the middle of the card.
Overall Goals
1. Reduce your opponent's health to zero.
