Walkthrough #2 - Power-Up Balloons & Their Effects
1. Basic balloon rules to remember
1a. Drive through a balloon to pick it up and receive the Basic version of that balloon.
1b. If you already have a balloon and drive through another of the same color, your balloon upgrades to the next level (Basic to Advanced, Advanced to Expert).
1c. If you already have a balloon and drive through another of a different color, the different-colored balloon simply pops and you get no upgrade.
1d. If a balloon's description includes "any racer", that indicates that it can also affect the racer that activated it.
1e. Power-Up Tokens are needed to upgrade weapons to their most advanced state. They're not available in T.T.'s Wish Race mode.
1f. Power-Up Tokens are octagonal (8-sided), have a blue border around a yellow arrow pointing up on white background. When you see them on tracks, they spin.
1g. When you have a Power-Up Token, it'll be displayed in the bottom left corner of your weapon's icon.
1h. To activate your Power-Up Token and boost the ballon you're holding, press the "X" button.
1i. Each Power-Up token can be used only once. Power-Up Tokens do not regenerate on the board in the same way that the balloons do.
2a. 1st Blue Balloon: Basic Speed Boost (provides a temporary speed boost)
2b. 2nd Blue Balloon: Advanced Speed Boost (provides a temporary speed boost)
2c. 3rd Blue Balloon: Super Speed Boost (provides a temporary speed boost)
2d. Any Blue Balloon + Power-Up Token: Boost Vortex - A missile creates a vortex that, if driven into, puts you into a temporarily invincible auto-pilot.
3a. 1st Green Balloon: Basic Passive Trap [an oil slick (carts) or a poisonous gas cloud (planes or hovercraft); can cause any racer to spin out)
3b. 2nd Green Balloon: Advanced Passive Trap (a spikey land mine; explodes any racer that hits it)
3c. 3rd Green Balloon: Super Passive Trap (a bubble trap; captures any racer that hits it and keeps them immobile for five whole seconds)
3d. Any Green Balloon + Power-Up Token: Trickster Mine - Place up to five mines that look like coins and have a minor ability to home-in on racers.
4a. 1st Rainbow Balloon: Basic Magnet Boost (magnetically charges your vehicle, pulls you up towards the closest racer ahead of you if within range)
4b. 2nd Rainbow Balloon: Advanced Magnet Boost (magnetically charges your vehicle, pulls you up towards the closest racer ahead of you if within range)
4c. 3rd Rainbow Balloon: Super Magnet Boost (magnetically charges your vehicle, pulls you up towards the closest racer ahead of you if within range)
4d. Any Rainbow Balloon + Power-Up Token: Magna Missile - A missile will fly through the race and explode when you tap the touch screen (unless you wait too long).
5a. 1st Red Balloon: Basic Missile Attack (shoots one missile straight ahead, will target lock if aimed DIRECTLY at another racer)
5b. 2nd Red Balloon: Advanced Missile Attack (shoots five missiles straight ahead, will target lock if aimed DIRECTLY at another racer)
5c. 3rd Red Balloon: Super Missile Attack (shoots one missile that will track down and hit any racer in the lead, spinning them 90 degrees)
5d. Any Red Balloon + Power-Up Token: Patroller Missile - Three missiles fly in a circle around your vehicle, protecting it.
6a. 1st Yellow Balloon: Basic Offensive Shield (numbs enemies that come in contact with you, repels missile attacks)
6b. 2nd Yellow Balloon: Advanced Offensive Shield (numbs enemies that come in contact with you, repels missile attacks)
6c. 3rd Yellow Balloon: Super Offensive Shield (numbs enemies that come in contact with you, repels missile attacks)
6d. Any Yellow Balloon + Power-Up Token: Hide-Me Shield - You will temporarily become totally invisible to other racers and their launched weapons.
7a. Gold Balloons are awarded in the single-player adventures when races and challenges are completed and provide access to additional areas.
7b. For the Advanced Missile Attacks, the number of missiles remaining will be displayed in the bottom right corner of the power-up's icon.
NOTE: The icon will always show a picture of five missiles even though there may not be five left.
7c. For the Super Missile Attacks, the missile will not track an opponent in Battle Tracks mode, since it's not a race.
