Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When the map appears on the two screens (or any time afterward), the host can tap on the lower screen to skip the opening sequence.
3. When the host's Nintendo DS says "Touch To Start!" on the lower screen, the host can tap the lower screen to begin.
Downloading
1. The host will tap on "Bomberman Battle Pack" option (on the right side on the lower screen) twice.
2. The host's lower screen will read "Use the buttons to play from here on in. Do not use the stylus."
3. The host presses the "A" button to continue.
4. The host will press down on the direction pad (to highlight "Multiplayer") and will then press the "A" button.
5. The host will then press down twice on the direction pad (to highlight "DS Download Play") and will then press the "A" button.
6. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
7. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
8. When the graphic bar appears saying "Bomberman Battle Pack", the guests tap on it.
9. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
10. When the host's DS says that all guests trying to connect are connected, the host taps "OK" in the bottom right corner of the lower screen.
Game/Feature/Options Selection
1. After the game has finished downloading, the character select screen will be displayed.
1a. On the upper screen, the name of each player will be displayed along with their character.
1b. If there are fewer than eight players, some of the slots will be blank.
1c. Colors for each player: white for 1, black for 2, red for 3, blue for 4, green for 5, yellow for 6, purple for 7, & aqua for 8.
1d. If there are fewer than eight players, the host can highlight an empty color and press the "A" button to add a computer player of that color.
1e. Continuing to press "A" will change the computer character's difficulty or will remove the computer character.
1f. Computer character difficulty settings cycle through the following order: Normal, Easy, Hard, Off (removed)
2. Teams can then be selected (if you want the game to play with everyone on their own team, skip this section).
2a. To activate the Teams option, the host highlights "Team" in the bottom center of the lower screen and presses the "A" button.
2b. The default setting is for each player to be on their own team.
2c. Teams can have anywhere from one through four players/characters in each one.
2d. All team options can only be selected and changed by the host.
2e. To change a character's team, highlight that character's face and press the "A" button.
2f. Pressing the "A" button one time will assign that player to "Team 1".
2g. Pressing the "A" button two times will assign that player to "Team 2".
2h. Pressing the "A" button three times will assign that player to "Team 3".
2i. Pressing the "A" button four times will assign that player to "Team 4".
2j. Pressing the "A" button five times will remove that player from being on a team and make them alone again.
2k. Teams will be graphically represented on the upper screen.
2l. To keep the selected team settings, the host must highlight "OK" in the lower screen's bottom right corner and then press the "A" button.
2m. To cancel all changes made to team settings and return to the character menu, the host presses the "B" button.
2n. Teams do not need to be evenly matched.
2o. There must be at least two different teams.
3. The next step is to select the board. In order from left to right, boards you can choose from include...
Mini-Mini - The board is only half the size (it fits entirely in the upper screen).
Unipass - Only one tunnel connects the two screens.
Tripass - Only three tunnels connect the two screens.
Tunnels - There are tunnels to hide in.
Kick-Kick - Arrows direct kicked bombs (active from the beginning of the game).
Conveyor Belt - Conveyor belts move bombs and characters.
Spikes - If you touch the spikes, you die.
Full-Power - There are no soft blocks and players begin with the highest power level.
Crown Battle - Touch the crown to win.
Full-Power Crown - There are no soft blocks and players begin with the highest power level. Touch the crown to win.
Merry-Go Crown - Touch the crown to win. The crown rides around the board on a conveyor belt.
Trapdoors - You can springboard from screen to screen.
Inferno - There are no hard blocks; there are blast winds from bombs.
Speedy - The game will begin at the fastest possible speed.
Lotsa Items - A stash of items ore available in the middle of the board.
Bom-Bom - Machines fling bombs around the board.
Blocks - Paint the most floor tiles with you bomb flames to win.
Kick Blocks - Paint the most floor tiles with you bomb flames to win. Arrows bend bombs. You have kick from the beginning.
Zombie - Paint the most floor tiles with you bomb flames to win. You can come back from death but lose your painted tiles.
Random - (Randomly selects one of the boards.)
Boards are set by the host. To change boards, the host presses left and right on the direction pad until the desired board is shown.
4. Once the desired board is selected and shown on their lower screen, the host presses the "A" button. The Options menu will then appear.
5. Options selection: Battle Method
5a. Options: Trophies, Score
5b. "Trophies" means the win condition is the number of victories.
5c. "Score" means the win condition is the number of points.
5d. To change which option is selected, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
6. Options selection: Sets
6a. If "Trophies" was selected, the number of sets indicates the number of victories needed.
6b. If "Score" was selected, the number of sets indicates the number of games that will be played.
6c. The number of sets can be set to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9. The default is 3.
6d. To change the number of sets, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
7. Options selection: Time
7a. The time setting indicates an overall time limit per game.
7b. The time limit can be set to 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, or 9:00. The default is 3:00.
7c. To change the time limit, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
7d. The time limit can not be set to unlimited.
8. Options selection: Sudden Death
8a. In Sudden Death, if both players are alive with 30 seconds to go, the screen fills with blocks until only one player remains unsquished.
8b. Sudden Death can be set to Yes or No. The deafault is set as Yes.
8c. To change whether Sudden Death is set on or off, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
8d. The setting of 30 seconds to go for the blocks can not be changed.
9. Options selection: Position
9a. The position setting refers to where each player starts out each board.
9b. The options are Fixed starting locations and Random starting locations. The default is Random.
9c. Fixed starting locations result in players beginning in the same location in all of the games (Random starting locations do not).
9d. To change which option is selected, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
10. Options selection: Revenge
10a. Revenge allows defeated players to keep throwing bombs onto the field.
10b. Revenge can be set to No (off), Yes (on), or Super (see the next line). The default is No.
10c. If Revenge is set to Super and a defeated player bombs a live one successfully, the defeated player re-enters the game.
10d. To change which option is selected, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
11. Options selection: Power Down
11a. Power Down indicates whether negative items will be included.
11b. Power Down can be set to Yes (negative items are available) or No (negative items aren't available).
11c. The Power Down default setting is Yes.
11d. To change whether Power Down is set to Yes or no, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
12. Options selection: Hanicap
12a. The Handicap option allows the host to give items to one or more players at the start of the game(s).
12b. Handicapping is generally used to balance (or to unbalance) the players' playing abilities and skill levels.
12c. The Handicap option can be set to Yes or No. If it is set to Yes (also the deafault), the next menu will be the Handicap menu.
12d. To change whether Handicap is set to Yes or no, the host highlights it and presses left or right on the direction pad.
13. Once the Options menu settings are all set properly, the host highlights "OK" on the lower screen and presses the "A" button.
14. If the Handicap option was set to Yes, the Handicap menu will then load.
14a. In this game, setting a handicap means giving a player an item to compensate for a lack of experience and/or skill.
14b. Player 1 (the host) will be selected first (the host's white Bomberman head will be displayed next to the empty bar).
NOTE: The host's white Bomberman head on the upper screen will also be larger than the other to indicate being highlighted.
14c. To choose which player is currently selected, the host highlights the bar next to the Bomberman head and presses left or right on the direction pad.
14d. Using the direction pad, the host highlights the item they want to give the currently selected player.
14e. Each player can receive up to six items.
14f. To delete the last item given to the selected player, the host highlights Remove on the lower screen and presses the "A" button.
NOTE: To delete all items given to the selected player, the host hightlights Remove and presses the "A" button repeatedly.
14h. When all handicaps are set, the host highlights OK in the bottom right corner of the lower screen and presses the "A" button.
15. To begin the game, the host presses the "A" button.
Game Controls / How To Play
1. The point of most of the game is simple: blow up everyone that's not you (and that's not on your team, if there are teams).
2. The point of the crown boards is to capture the crown (and to blow all of your enemies up while doing it).
3. Move your Bomberman with the direction pad.
4. Place a bomb by pressing the "A" button.
NOTE: Bombs can blow up opponents, brick walls, AND items!
5. If Revenge was set to Yes or Super, Revenge mode will be in effect..
5a. After you've been defeated, you will be given a bomb launcher which will appear along the bottom edge of the lower screen.
5b. To aim, press up, down, left, and right on the direction pad until the target is located where you want to shoot the bomb at.
5c. To shoot the bomb, the "A" button.
NOTE: It will take a second or two for the bomb to get to its destination.
5d. If Revenge is set to Super and your launcher's bomb blows up a player, you replace that player in the same spot they were at.
5e. Revenge will not function with two people (when one dies, the game is over - no time for revenge).
What To Look For
1. The countdown clock that indicates the time remaining is in the top center of the upper screen and the bottom center of the lower screen.
Overall Goals
1. Blow up everyone that's not you or one of your teammates.
2. Stay alive the longest.
3. Capture the crown (some boards).
