Basic Setup
1. With the power off, the host loads the game cartridge into their Nintendo DS system.
2. The host powers their system on, then taps on the "Warning" screen and then on the graphic for the game.
3. When the "Touch!" button appears on the lower screen, the host taps anywhere on the lower screen.
Downloading
Single-Card Download Demo
1. The host tap "Send Demo" in the bottom left corner of the lower screen.
2. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
3. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
4. When the graphic bar appears saying "Big Brain Academy (Demo)", the guests tap on it.
5. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
6. When the host's DS says "Distribute it to ...?" ("..." being the guest's name), the host taps "OK" in the bottom center of the lower screen.
Single-Card Download Vs Play
1. If the host doesn't have a registered save file, they'll have to create one.
1a. To create a registered save file, the host taps one of the buttons reading "Register" on the lower screen.
1b. The host then enters their name (or, at least, the name for their save file) onto the lower screen.
1c. The host then taps "Done" in the bottom left corner of the lower screen.
2. The host taps on their profile on the lower screen.
3. The host (after going through the "Entering A New Profile For The First Time" introduction) taps "Versus" on the right side of the lower screen.
4. The host then taps "Form a Group" along the bottom edge of the lower screen.
5. The guest(s) will power on their Nintendo DS system.
6. The guest(s) tap on the "Warning" screen and then on the "DS Download Play" button.
7. When the graphic bar appears saying "Big Brain Academy", the guests tap on it.
8. The guests' DS systems will ask "Would you like to download this software? Tap "Yes".
9. When the host's DS says that all guests trying to connect are connected, the host taps "OK" in the bottom center of the lower screen.
Game/Feature/Options Selection - Prior To Selecting A Game
Single-Card Download Demo
1. When the "Touch!" button appears on the lower screen, tap anywhere on the lower screen.
2. The game will provide an introduction. After each of the six parts displays on the upper screen, tap the arrow in the top right corner of the lower screen.
3. After the introduction, the "Start" button on the bottom center of the lower screen will start to pulse; tap it.
4. The first of the five categories, randomly selected, will appear around the pentagon and begin to pulse; tap it.
NOTE: For instructions on the individual games, see below.
5. After each of the five games (one randomly selected from each category), the next category becomes available.
6. Following the fifth of the five games, an eight-screen Summation will be presented.
7. After the summation, tap the "Results" button at the bottom center of the lower screen.
8. The game will provide the score and an analysis of the score, a grade, and an evaluation of what type of person the score represents.
Single-Card Download Vs Play
1. When the pentagon-shaped chart appears on the lower screen, the host selects a category (Analyze, Compute, Identify, Memorize, or Think) by tapping on it.
2. After selecting a catedory, the host selects a game by tapping on it's name (for a list of games in each category, see below).
3. The host then taps "OK" in the bottom center of the screen.
4. The host can then select the difficulty ("Diff.") by tapping Easy, Normal ("Norm.), or Hard at the top of the lower screen's options (the default is Easy).
5. Next, the host will select the target brain weight (in grams) for the game.
5a. The options are 50 g, 60 g, 70 g, 80 g, 90 g, or 100 g.
5b. The default is set to 50 g.
5c. In the games, the first player to answer correctly scores 10 g.
5d. Additional players to score correctly get points (grams) whose amounts are based on the number of players.
5e. Answering questions incorrectly causes players to lose points (grams), also based on the number of players.
6. The host can also select whether the countdown timer is on or off.
6a. If the countdown timer is on (the default option), players will have additional time to answer after the first player has answered.
NOTE: The amount of additional time is based on the number of players.
6b. If the countdown timer is off, the first player to answer is the only player to score.
7. After each game, the player who came in last place will select the next category, game, difficulty level, target brain weight, and countdown timer options.
