- Co-Op Play
Co-op play is a form of multiplayer gaming feature where two or more players play through the main game (or a portion of the main game) working
together in a cooperative manner.
- Demos
Demos are a form of multiplayer gaming feature utilizing Single-Card Download play that sends a small/partial version of the game (a
"demonstration" version) to another players system. The host can then turn their system off and the guest can continue playing the game until
they power off their system as well.
- Direction Pad
The direction pad is located to the left of the Nintendo DS's lower screen (the touch screen) and a four-way button that usually indicates either
up/down/left/right directions or front/back/left/right directions (depending on the angle of the picture and whether the game is rendered in 2D or in
3D).
- Downloaders
When using Single-Card Download play, "Downloaders" are the people who do not have the game cartidge in their Nintendo DS system. The number of
downloaders depends on what each game can allow. There can be as many as fifteen (15) or more downloaders. Sometimes described as "guests" or "joined
players".
- Guests
When using Single-Card Download play, "Guests" are the people who do not have the game cartidge in their Nintendo DS system. The number of guests
depends on what each game can allow. There can be as many as fifteen (15) or more guests. Sometimes described as "downloaders" or "joined
players".
- Host
When using Single-Card Download play, the "Host" is the person who has the game cartridge in their Nintendo DS system. There is only one host at a
time when utilizing Single-Card Download play. Sometimes described as the "Owner".
- Joined Players
When using Single-Card Download play, "Joined Players" are the people who do not have the game cartidge in their Nintendo DS system. The number of
joined players depends on what each game can allow. There can be as many as fifteen (15) or more joined players. Sometimes described as "downloaders"
or "guests".
- Mini Games
Mini games are a form of multiplayer gaming feature where two or more players play through a specially designed multiplayer mode, utilizing either
co-op play or versus play, that is not a part of the main game.
- Multi-Card Play
Multi-Card Play is an alternative to Single-Card Download Play where each player is required to own their own copy of a game and have them all
running simultaneously. Multi-Card Play is often utilized by programmers when the amount of data that would need to be downloaded is too large to fit
into a Nintendo DS system's temporary memory.
- Multiplayer Modes
Multiplayer modes are modes within a game that allow more than one person to play in the same game at the same time.
- Owner
When using Single-Card Download play, the "Owner" is the person who has the game cartridge in their Nintendo DS system. There is only one owner at
a time when utilizing Single-Card Download play. Sometimes described as the "Host".
- Slot-1 (DS Card Slot)
Slot-1 is the slot in the Nintendo DS game system where Nintendo DS game chips are loaded into. It is located on the bottom of the Nintendo DS,
near the back.
- Slot-2 (GBA Slot)
Slot-2 is the slot in the Nintendo DS game system where GameBoy Advanced games (not original GameBoy or GameBoy Color games) are loaded into. It
is located on the bottom of the Nintendo DS, near the front.
- Stylus
A stylus is a pointed instrument used as an input device on a pressure-sensitive screen (touch screen). Some look like a pen without ink while
others may wrap around a finger. All styluses may a pointed, but NOT sharp, tip. For a Nintendo DS or a Nintendo DS Lite, the stylus that comes with
the system can store inside the unit on the bottom.
- Versus Play
Versus play is a form of multiplayer gaming feature where two or more players play through the main game (or a portion of the main game) working
against each other either in battle or competition. Versus play is also known as head-to-head play.
